This bunk takes 2 single mattresses make sure to watch the height as you don't want the top bunk to over hang to the guard rail 18cm is about right for the depth. You gain a solid slatted base this is going to add ventilation and support to the mattress which is great from a sleeping surface. 

There's space underneath for extra storage you could place small boxes and accessories giving easy access when called upon. We would recommend the top bunk for kids over 6 years old and the lower for 4 year olds and above. This grey bunk bed comes flat packed so it's easily dealt with easily on the day of delivery.
